: Introduction

When the Sega Dreamcast was launched on September 9, 1999, owners were treated to their very own exclusive Mortal Kombat game. Mortal Kombat Gold is the ultimate upgrade to Mortal Kombat 4, featuring returning characters (each with their own ending) and levels from previous MK games, new features, and graphics superior to even the arcade version of MK4!

Making their return in MK Gold are Baraka, Cyrax, Kitana, Kung Lao, and Mileena (with Sektor lurking in the shadows). If that wasn't enough, several levels from the past made their 3D debut, including the Soul Chamber and the Chapel, as well as several all-new ones!

Like Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 before it, was this the version Midway had originally hoped to produce but couldn't because of of time restraints, or were they just waiting for a system capable of handling their hopes for the fifth installment for the series? Either way, MK Gold is a great game any MK fan should have.

Story

Thousands of years ago in a battle with the fallen Elder God known as Shinnok, I was responsible for the death of an entire civilization.

To rid all realms of Shinnok's menace I waged a war that plunged the Earth into centuries of darkness and banished Shinnok into a place called the Netherealm.

Now after Shao Kahn's defeat at the hands of Earth's warriors, Shinnok has managed to escape his confines in the Netherealm.

The war is now being fought once again. Only this time it can be won by mortals.
